Another holiday season is behind us and a new year is before us. Here at Funderland, we look at each new year as a new opportunity to better serve our Funderland friends and family. We are looking forward to another year of kid-sized thrills, exciting events, fun-filled birthday parties, and plenty of Happy dances!

5 Easy Holiday Craft Ideas For The Kids!

With the holidays in full swing, it can be a stressful time for parents. Between battling out in store aisles for this year’s must-have toys (I hope everyone’s stocked up on Hatchimals), frantically remembering to rearrange the Elf on the Shelf, and trying to keep the kids entertained as they anxiously await Santa’s arrival, you might be feeling more like the Grinch than you’d like to admit. In an effort to restore some holiday cheer and keep the little ones entertained, we’ve compiled a list of five easy DIY holiday craft ideas.

1.Jolly Elves

This fun and simple craft might give your Elf on the Shelf a run for his or her money!

What You’ll Need:

– One whole chenille stem and half a stem
– Small and large beads
– Wooden face bead
– Small jingle bell
– Felt
– Glue gun and hotmelt adhesive
– Scissors
– Ribbon

How to Make Them:

Hat: Cut a 1-1/2-inch-diameter semicircle from felt. Wrap the semicircle around from point to point to form a cone, leaving a small opening at the tip; hot-glue to secure.
Scarf: Cut a 1/2-x-4-inch piece of felt; fringe ends with scissors. Cut a small lengthwise slit about 1 3/4 inches from one end for opposite end of scarf to pass through.
Body: Bend one chenille stem in half and, in the following order, thread materials over the bent point to about halfway down the stem: large bead for body, face bead, felt hat, small jingle bell. Leave about 3/4 inch above the jingle bell and shape the stem into a loop. Then, starting on opposite ends: Thread 4 small beads onto each leg and bend the ends to form feet. Use the half chenille stem to make arms by centering and twisting around the elf’s neck area. Thread 4 small beads onto each arm and bend the ends to form hands. Wrap the scarf around the elf’s neck, then thread ribbon through the top loop and hang.

2. Snowflake and Felt Bird Ornaments

These ornaments are super easy and can probably be made using some spare items in your craft or junk drawer.

What You’ll Need:

– Popsicle sticks
– Buttons
– Craft glue
– Thread
– Scissors
– Felt
– Spring clothespin

How to Make the Snowflakes

Glue three Popsicle sticks together in an asterisk shape and let dry. Glue buttons along each stick, as shown. (Be sure to position a larger button at the end of one stick so that the button holes are not blocked.) Push thin thread through large button holes to hang.

How to Make the Felt Birds

Trace this bird template onto felt and cut out. Glue the wing to the body and decorate with sequins. Attach a clothespin to the back with glue.

3. Doggie Biscuits

For dog lovers, create some tasty gingerbread biscuits to spread the holiday cheer to your pampered pup. Your kids will love being able to create their own holiday treats for their best friend.

What You’ll Need:

– 3/4 cup hot water
– 1/4 cup butter
– 1/2 cup powdered milk
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 large egg
– 2 cups whole wheat flour
– 1 cup quick oats
– 1/4 cup wheat germ

How to Make Them:

1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Combine 3/4 cup hot water and 1/4 cup butter in a large bowl. Stir until butter melts. Add 1/2 cup powdered milk, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 large egg, beaten. Stir in 2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 cup quick oats, and 1/4 cup wheat germ. Mix until dough forms. Knead on a floured surface to form a stiff dough.
2. Roll dough out to a 1/2-inch thickness and cut out dog-bone shapes using a cookie cutter. Place on baking sheet and bake 50 minutes. Let cool completely. Store in airtight containers. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.

4. Handprint Tree

This easy craft ensures that you will have a unique Christmas tree with your child’s personal touch.

What You’ll Need:

– Office Paper
– Paintbrush
– Tape
– Scissor
– Toothpick
– Green and yellow card stock
– Green and light green paint

How To Make Them:

Paint several sheets of office paper green. Accent the sheets with the light green paint. Let sheets dry. Trace your child’s hands onto paper. Cut the handprints out. Form green cardstock into cone. Tape cone shut. Trim bottom, so it sits flat. Glue hand cutouts to cone, fingers facing down. Cut out a star from the yellow cardstock. Tape it to a toothpick and add it to the top of the tree.

5. Lightbulb Snowmen

This simple craft transforms a plain lightbulb into an adorable snowman.

What You’ll Need:

– A lightbulb
– A toilet paper tube
– White paint
– Any solid color paint
– Black marker
– Orange marker
– Small piece of fabric
– Glitter
– Wire

How To Make Them

Balance a lightbulb on a toilet-paper tube, and paint the glass part white. Paint the metal a solid color for the snowman’s hat, and add eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons with markers. Wrap a small piece of fabric around the lightbulb neck for the snowman’s scarf. Finish it off with some spray adhesive and a sprinkle of clear glitter. To hang, take a bit of wire and twist it around the hat.

Summer has come and gone, the kids are back in school, and it’s time to settle down into our fall routines. For us here at Funderland, this means a ton of fun events, specials and giveaways coming up that you won’t want to miss!

Our Fall Hours:

First off, let’s start with our new hours for the fall. As summer comes to a close, so do our summer hours. Funderland Park will now be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but will be open Wednesdays – Fridays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturdays – Sundays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.! We can’t wait to see you and your families enjoying your fall months with us!

After School Special:

We know that going back to school and getting back into the swing of things can be somewhat challenging at times, that’s why we’ve brought back our After School Special! Half off weekday unlimited ride wristbands will be active until October 28, 2016. What We’re Looking For:

The Park Operations Manager will assist the General Manager in producing an efficient day to day operation while maintaining an environment that embodies Funderland’s mission of creating magical memories for our guests.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Meeting and agreeing to Funderland’s mission.

• Continual engagement with staff including hiring, directing, coaching, reviewing, and training as well as maintaining a positive organizational culture.

• Managing and overseeing a crew of 10 to 30 individuals.

• Interacting with guests including handling guest relations, concerns, responding to guest questions, and improving guest experience. Guest service skills are an absolute necessity.

• Interacting with children and people.

• Ensuring all safety rules, regulations, and procedures are carried out.

• Being able to properly inspect the various rides and detect safety issues.

• Coordinating, scheduling, and creating contracts for all booked events, as well as work occasional evening hours for those events.

• Working directly with the General Manager to ensure safety, promotions, team member procedures/protocol, day to day tasks, cleanliness, etc., are being carried out promptly and efficiently.

• Monitoring park appearance, and ride performance with a focus on quality experiences.

• Implementing new operational procedures or requirements that will improve guest and team member experience.\r\nMaking deposits as needed.

• Operating and supervising point of sale transactions as well as filing daily reports.

• Managing product inventory and control as well as ordering supplies and making cost comparisons as needed for concessions.\r\nMust be available to work weekends.

Job Qualifications:

• College degree is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Management/leadership experience.

• Guest relations experience.

• Self motivated, quick learner, organized, detail oriented.

• Pass a Megan’s Law and background check.

Compensation:

• Pay determined on work experience.

• Health benefits including dental.

• Vacation time.

Summer break, where did you go?!

As the couple months of your child’s summer break are coming to a close, we would like to take a minute to thank you all, our awesome customers, for such a great summer! Now, time for a bit of a humble brag because we are so proud of not only the park, but of everyone that makes this park what it is on a daily basis. Park Update:

We are constantly working to improve our park and we take our customer’s feedback very seriously. With that being said we have heard your concerns about our bathroom situation. Good news is that is first on our list of projects! We are working to get a bathroom in-park, so you no longer have to leave park walls (albeit only a few steps) to use the facilities. This will also give us full control over the cleanliness of the facilities as well which we do not have much control over right now. We can’t wait to further improve our park and make this happen for our guests! What to do with the seemingly endless amount of free time in the summer months away from school can prove to be a difficult task for some parents. For working parents, it may be harder for you to ensure that your child is getting the most out of their summer days, but there are plenty of things you can do to make sure their summer is as much of a development and learning period as it is a break from school.

 

One thing you want to be sure your child cuts back on is spending too much time indoors with their eyes glued to a screen. This does nothing for their mental processes and can actually become a cause for concern. Activities that incorporate a healthy balance of education, play, and relaxation prove to be the perfect mix to get the most enrichment and growth out of your child’s summer break. We’ve compiled a list of ideas that cover all of the bases that will make this summer one to remember for the whole family!

 

1. Start a Lemonade Stand

 

Nothing really beats a good old fashioned lemonade stand in the hot summer heat! Let your kids express their creativity by decorating their own stand and creating flyers to put out around the neighborhood. Not only is this a fun activity for both you and your kids, this could also be an educational experience. This activity gives parents the chance to begin to instill entrepreneurial qualities in their children from a young age as they learn perseverance, communication skills, and, of course, the value of their hard-earned money and success!

 

2. Create a Family Cookbook

 

Calling all the sous chefs in the family! If your child loves helping out in the kitchen, this is a great activity for them to engage in that interest and take it to the next level. Creating your own family cookbook is a great way to bond with your children. You might have a new family tradition to pass down to future generations!

 

3. Pick Up a New Instrument.

If your child is a dancing machine or has ever pounded the “drums” on a turned over pot, learning to play an instrument could be something they will really enjoy! Music lessons of any sort have countless benefits such as total brain stimulation, an increase of brain capacity, and the ability to sharpen your concentration to name a few! Aside from the physical and psychological benefits, learning to play an instrument is a fun and stimulating hobby that kids and parents can really enjoy with no expiration date.

 

4. Volunteer at an Animal Shelter.

 

Volunteering at your local animal shelter is a great educational activity for you and your children over the summer months. Not only will your kids gain tons of knowledge of the different animals and their needs within the shelter, they will also learn compassion and selflessness through volunteering with animals.
