Giveaway Rules

It’s that time of year again – Summer is coming to an end, the leaves are starting to fall, and school is back in full session. Here at Funderland, we are getting ready for the Fall season as well.

Beginning tomorrow, September 6th, we will be open Wednesday through Sunday only. Weekday hours of operation are now 11am – 5pm, but weekends stay the same (10am – 6pm).

Although the Summer fun has come to an end, don’t worry, Fall comes with it’s own set of perks! Now through October 27th, you can enjoy our After School Special. We know you’re hitting the books hard all day, but once that bell rings, it’s time for some fun! That’s why every Wednesday through Friday for the next 2 months, we offer wristbands for half price after 3pm!

Next month, we are bringing back everyone’s favorite Fall event – Spooktacular Halloween! October 28th and 29th, join us at Funderland for Halloween favorites, including trick-or-treating, your favorite super heros, costume contests, and more! Stay tuned later this season for more details on the event.

So what are you waiting for? Come on in for a day of family fun – and don’t forget to tag us in your photos on Facebook and Instagram!

As we wrap up our Sizzling Summer specials this Labor Day, we’re not going out of the summer season without a bang! We value our loyal Season Pass Holders and wanted to have another day to show our appreciation. You’ve been enjoying the park all year, and now is your opportunity to share your perks with your friends!

This Monday, September 4th, Season Pass Holders can bring a friend with them to the park for FREE. Don’t miss this chance for a day of free riding – it’s the last one of the season! (Must be a current season pass holder, limit one free friend for every season pass holder.)

Labor Day also marks the beginning of our After School Specials! We know the whole “back to school” thing can be a drag, but there’s still room for fun! Starting next week, Wednesday-Friday from 3-5pm, you can get half price unlimited ride wristbands!

On Sunday, July 30th, Happy the Squirrel will visit the River Cats at Raley Field for Dinger’s Birthday! He will arrive to the field at 4pm, along with his fellow Funderland representatives, so be on the look out for your favorite squirrel and Funderland staff members! The game starts at 5:05pm, when Happy will have a chance to greet the adoring baseball fans.

Be sure to stop by our table, and take spin on our prize wheel to win some fun prizes and learn more about Funderland!

As you may remember, River Cats representatives had a chance earlier this month to be part of Funderland for the day, as they promoted Dinger’s Kids Club. To learn more and DKC, you can visit their website. We love being part of our community and are always excited for an opportunity to promote ways for kids in the area to have fun, whether you’re a resident or just visiting.

March is upon us and we are springing forward into egg-citing times at Funderland! Mark your calendars, because the 2017 Easter Eggstravaganza is quickly approaching! Our event kicks off on Friday, April 7^th at 11am and continues through Saturday & Sunday, April 8^th & 9^th beginning at 10am.

Our Eggstravaganza will include egg hunts ($3.50 per person), visits from the Easter Bunny and Happy the Squirrel, free ride tickets with donation to River Oak Center for Children, free arts and crafts, vendors, a prize wheel, and as always plenty of great rides, food, and fun! At Funderland, we believe in supporting the community that so strongly supports us. That’s why you will receive FREE ride tickets if you bring new games or art supplies for donation to River Oak Center for Children.

River Oak Center for Children provides comprehensive behavioral health services to at risk and troubled children and youth throughout Sacramento County. Their mission is to help children and youth who need support, coaching, and treatment to thrive in school, at home, and in the community. Funderland Park has worked with River Oak Center for Children for over ten years, and have had the opportunity to offer those families seeking support from River Oak to enjoy fun filled days at the park. These days often amount to over 600 people at Funderland in one afternoon!

We believe in River Oak’s mission and we are proud to be able to contribute to something positive for children and families in need. By bringing new games or art supplies, you are helping to support this wonderful organization!

Squirrel Facts and a Happy Inspired Treat!

Happy the Squirrel is one of the most beloved members of the Funderland family. He can always be found working to put a smile on the face of our Funderland visitors from posing for pictures, breaking it down with his dance moves, showing off his (freshly painted!) Acorn House, or hanging from the Squirrelly Whirl. But how much do you know about everyone’s favorite squirrel?

We’ve got you covered with five of our favorite facts about squirrels and a tasty Happy-inspired treat for you to try!

5 Fun Facts About Squirrels

1. A Squirrel’s Front Teeth Never Stop Growing

That’s right, Happy’s got some chompers! Squirrels have to continuously gnaw on things to keep their teeth from growing too long. If you see Happy gnawing on a couple of carrots or nachos from the Funderland Café, you know why!

2. Squirrels Help Plant Trees

Squirrels sometimes forget to dig up the nuts they have buried, which results in trees springing up from their forgotten food. If you look around Funderland, you might see a few trees that Happy’s forgetfulness has helped to grow!

3. A Newborn Squirrel is About An Inch Long

Happy might seem big now, but he was much smaller than you when he was born!

4. Squirrels Can Run Up to 20 Miles An Hour

Happy is faster than he looks! Next time you’re in the park, try challenging him to a race!

5. Squirrels Have Excellent Eyesight

Squirrels have better peripheral vision than humans! Happy can easily recognize Funderland guests and always has his eyes peeled for new friends!

Now that you’ve got the facts down, try snacking like a squirrel! Happy loves his acorns, and now you can make some of your own. Try this delicious Acorn Cookie recipe, but don’t bring them around Happy or they might go missing!

Acorn Cookie Recipe

What You Need

Sugar Cookie Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 tbsp milk
½ tsp vanilla extract
Peanut butter
melted dark chocolate
chocolate chips
Hershey’s chocolate kisses

How To Make Them

Make the cookies: Mix together the flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until it becomes light and fluffy. Add the milk, egg and vanilla and mix well. Then slowly add the flour mixture until it is just combined. Shape the dough into a ball, then divide it into two balls. Wrap them in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Lightly dust some flour onto your countertop, and roll the dough out until it is ¼ inch thick. Find a cookie cutter that is just slightly larger than the base of a Hershey’s chocolate kiss. Water bottle caps work great! Cut out circles of the dough and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a fork to create a check pattern on top. Bake at 350F for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown. Cool completely.

Assembly: Place the peanut butter in a piping bag and pipe a dollop of peanut butter between 2 cookies and press them together. Place a dollop of melted dark chocolate on the center of each cookie sandwich and attached a chocolate chip. Place more melted chocolate onto the base of the Hershey’s kisses and attach to the other side of the cookie sandwiches. Place in the fridge for 20 minutes for the chocolate to stiffen, then enjoy!
