Of Cocoa and Carousels

Dec10

This morning I’m starting the day with a frothy cup of hot cocoa. There’s nothing like nursing a hot cup on cold mornings. Today I topped it off with peppermint shavings in honor of the season. And I’ve been doing a little holiday decorating as well. It’s always such a joy to get out those traditional little keepsakes. So many good memories of people and times gone by.

I know it may seem late to some of you, but I’m beginning my gift hunting this week too. I know, I know, I have friends that have already finished. So if you’re in that camp, congratulations! I always have good intentions, but you know how that goes.

So at some point this week, we’ll be hitting Arden Fair Mall. And, aside from shopping, a trip to the mall means a stop at the Carousel. Did you know Funderland operates and manages the carousel in Arden Fair? Indeed, we do.

Carousels have a long and colorful history, and I believe the first one to appear in the United States was in the early 1800’s. They’ve developed over the years, of course, with state of the art technology, but they still thrill young and old alike. The carousel in Arden Fair Mall is a custom-made Barrango built in San Francisco in 1992. At the time, it cost a whopping $250,000! Marcy Friedman, one of the owners of Arden Fair Mall, was instrumental in the design and painting of the animals. It’s a beautiful little piece, hand-painted and brightly colored. Just the sort of thing to bring the imagination to life! So if you’re in the mall this season, be sure to stop by with the kids and take a spin. It’s a perfect break from the frenetic mall pace!

Oh, and if you’re still looking for the perfect family gift, why not purchase a 2013 Season Pass? During the month of December, you can get $15 off the regular price! Plus, it’s a gift that lasts all year long. How’s that for some holiday magic?!

December Delights

Dec03

We love December, a month flowing with grace and gifts. Full of bright lights, cool nights, and warm kitchens. Not to mention good food and fellowship as we celebrate with family and friends. It warms our hearts and tickles our toes just to think about it. Yeah, it makes us a little silly too!

So what’s going on in our wide, wintry world? Or more specifically, what’s going on in our little neck of the woods this season?

Well, the park is closed this month, the weather being too cold and unpredictable. But we continue to work behind the scenes planning, building, and improving. We hope to have some great events and surprises for you in 2013, so stay tuned!

And in case you’re wondering what to get the little ones, you can make their whole next year merry and bright by buying them a 2013 Season Pass. That’s right, even though we’re closed this month, you can still purchase a 2013 Season Pass online. And at a discounted price–only $64.95! So why not give a gift that’s fun for the whole family and lasts all year long? Fah who foraze, as they say down in Whoville!

And, of course, there’s a plethora of holiday activities and festivities going on around town this month. Here are a few staples of the season guaranteed to cheer your heart.

Looking for more fun activities? Check out our friends at Sacramento365 and Sacramento Sidetracks. They highlight enough family fun for everyone. So get out there and deck those halls!

Change is in the Air

Nov27

As November draws to a close, our thoughts turn to Christmas and the fast approaching new year. So much fun and food on the way and so many festivities in store! And while the park is closed for the month of December, we’re still working behind the scenes and making plans for Spring. And that’s where we’d like a little help from you.

We’ve been hosting birthday parties at the park for longer than we can remember, and we love doing it. Currently, we offer three different party packages and a variety of add-on options. But we think it’s time to evaluate, and perhaps change our packages, and that’s where you come in. We’d like your feedback first. We want to know what you think!

So with that in mind, we’ve developed a very short Birthday Party Survey. (Really, it’s short and simple).

We value your opinion and would appreciate your input as we try to improve our Birthday Party services. So please take a minute and tell us how we can best meet your birthday party needs in the future.

Thanks so much for your participation!

Giving Thanks

Nov19

Perhaps this week more than any other, we all focus on giving thanks. And here at Funderland we’re reminded how healthy it is to actually voice our thankfulness. While we are thankful for our customers and employees all year long, we wanted to stop and take this opportunity to say it loud and clear: Thank you! Thanks for spending time with us and supporting us. We appreciate each and every one of you!

We’d also like to take a moment and share some of the thankful thoughts from the people behind the scenes and behind the rides, our fantastic employees. They’re a great group of people–silly, serious, and steadfast–and here’s what they had to say.

“I’m thankful for warm opportunities in this chilly weather and spending time with family and friends. It has a cool way of driving us all together.” –John

“I’m thankful for my family.” –Rachel

“I’m thankful for basically everything that’s good in life.” –Kirk

“I’m thankful for my daughter Scarlett. And I love my wife. Those are the two biggest things in my life right now.” –Trey

“I’m thankful there is no zombie apocalypse … yet.” –Beatriz

“I’m thankful for my family, plain and simple. I come from a big family.” –Lizette

“I’m thankful for the smile on customers’ faces.” –Brian

“I’m thankful for being alive.” –Alicia

“I’m thankful to have this job for which I get to make people smile every day. I get to be part of their magical memories. I’m thankful for great bosses, great employees, and my family.” –Maria

“I’m really thankful that they hired me here at Funderland.” –Johnny

“I’m totally thankful for my mom and my sister. And for my friends for sure.” –Marie

“I’m thankful for peace, love, and happiness.” –Francesca

“I’m thankful most for my family who support me and motivate me to do well. And my friends to goof around with. During the year all that gets lost, and the holidays remind us that a lot of us are lucky.” –Wendy

And with that, from our family here at Funderland to yours, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! (And we look forward to seeing you this weekend!)

How to Celebrate Small Business Saturday

Nov12

Did you know Saturday November 24th is called Small Business Saturday? Why? Well, the idea is to encourage and financially support small, local businesses during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. These businesses often get eclipsed by big box retail and e-commerce on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. So Saturday is a day to go local.

In honor of the day, we’re running our own special. When you check into Funderland Park on Facebook on November 24th, you’ll get two free tickets! So we hope you come out to the park, dodge a little of the mall chaos, and take a spin (or two or three…) on some of our fabulous rides.

And, not to be outdone by the “big boys,” we’re featuring a Black Friday Special too! When you come to the park on Friday November 23rd and purchase a 2013 Season Pass, you’ll get a free cup of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and sprinkles!

Oh, FYI, our friends next door at Fairytale Town have a Black Friday special as well. They’re offering free admission on November 23rd to families who bring in a canned food item. For more information, click here.

And the Food & Toy Drive will be in full swing over at our other neighbors, the Sacramento Zoo. They’re giving $1 off on Zoo admission when you bring in a non-perishable food item or a new and unwrapped toy. More details here.

So a cornucopia of delights awaits you! Why not make a weekend of it? We hope you come on out and go local Thanksgiving weekend. And bring your family and friends!

Early Thanksgiving Thoughts

Nov05

With the beginning of November, our thoughts turn to thanksgiving, the holiday and the act. While things slow down a little at the park, we’re thankful for the gorgeous Fall weather that allows us to be open this month. In fact, we love the crisp, clean sunny days. All you need is a sweater and perhaps a stylish scarf, and you’re ready to ride the Red Baron!

So, as the weather permits, we’ll be open Friday–Sunday throughout November. We hope you take advantage of the beautiful weekends that come along and come out to ride and walk around the park.

Plus, we have a few perks awaiting you this month. To add a little sweetness to your Thanksgiving celebration, we’re running a Black Friday special. When you come to the park Friday November 23rd and buy a 2013 Season Pass, you’ll get a free cup of hot chocolate, complete with whipped cream and sprinkles! And you can start using your pass that very day. So why fight your way through the mall when you could be sauntering through the park sipping hot chocolate and watching the kids work off all that excess energy?

And if that’s not enough, we’ve also got a Small Business Saturday special. When you come on Saturday November 24th and check into Funderland Park on Facebook, you’ll get two free tickets! Wowzer! What’s not to like about free?

So we hope you make us a part of your Thanksgiving festivities this year.
