Back to School Lunch Ideas

Jul29

Back to school brings a lot of excitement and changes. But one thing you may be dreading as a parent is trying to get creative with brown bagged lunches for the kiddos. Whether you have a picky eater or just want to give your son or daughter some variety, we have some great back to school lunch ideas for you.

Snacks

  • Fruit kabobs are a fun way to pack sliced fruits. Try pineapple, banana, apples, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, kiwi, and watermelon.
  • Yogurt is a great sweet treat that give your child a good dose of calcium and protein. There are lots of options including drinkable, spoonable, or squishable packages.
  • Fruit leathers or granola bars are an easy non-perishable snack for kids
  • Trail Mix also packs lots of protein and good-for-you fiber. You can make your own using nuts, dried fruit, cereal, popped corn, or carob chips.

Build Your Own Lunch

  • Pick a Protein:

Sliced cheese, turkey, ham, tuna, pepperoni, hummus, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, or peanut/almond butter

  • Pick a Fruit or Veggie:

Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, carrots, zucchini, celery, pickles, olives, or radishes.

  • Pick a Grain:

Whole grain crackers, tortillas, sliced bread, bagel slices, cooked rice or quinoa, English muffins, brown rice chips, or sweet potato fries.

  • Use small reusable containers like these mini-dippers, for low fat ranch, Italian dressing, mustard, cream cheese, peanut butter, or jelly! Making adding a big flavor even easier.

Lunchbox Essentials

  • Small freezer packs helps keep cold items chilled until lunch time
  • A thermos are a great way to keep hot things hot and cool things cooler. Great for soups, apple cider, mac-n-cheese, iced water, milk, or juice.
  • Kid sized utensils make mealtime easier for little eaters just like these from Pottery Barn Kids
  • Make each day a little more special with lunch love notes from Mom.

Dads Make our World Awesome

Jun12

Dad, we sometimes forget to tell you how much we appreciate you. We know you work hard, provide for your family, and teach us so many valuable life lessons. So we wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all you do.

Why Dads Make Our World Awesome:

You are an Influencer

When you encourage your kids, you make them feel strong, capable, and supported. Don’t ever forget how much your cheering means to your children.

You are Adaptable

When mom is sick, you often step into the role of Mr. Mom. We know it can be way out of your comfort zone, but you do an awesome job keeping your family’s little boat afloat.

You Keep Energy High

Although sometimes you might get the kids a little too wound up at bedtime, you have a knack for getting the kids active and burning off energy. From sports, to yard work, and all the ways in between, you get things done. And that’s get for everyone.

So thank you to all you dads who make our world more awesome. To show our appreciation, we’re hosting a Dads Ride FREE day at Funderland on Sunday, June 15th.

5 Things to do With Your Kids this Summer

May16

Now that the kids are almost out of school, it’s time to start planning your summer activities to keep them busy! Whether it’s a summer sports or art camp, playdates with friends, or relaxing afternoons by the pool, there’s lots of things to do with your kids this summer. Here are just a few ideas for you!

5 Things to do With Your Kids this Summer

  1. Host a summer party. You don’t have to have a birthday to throw an awesome summer party. All you need is some creativity, space, and sunshine. Some fun themes include a Luau Party, a Pool Party, or a Party at the Farm. Head to the dollar store for inexpensive items like hula hoops, flower leis, water toys, or hats. Don’t forget fun games like pin the tail on the donkey, pinatas, hopscotch, musical chairs, or 3 legged race.
  2. Explore your neighborhood. The Greater Sacramento Area is full of beautiful parks and trails. Take a nature walk through scenic parks like William Land Park. Make it more exciting by turning your walk into a scavenger hunt! List items like leaves, rocks, flowers, and landmark items like statues, fountains, and signs.
  3. Get fit together. Nothing brings your family closer than exercising together. It’s a great way to get and stay healthy and nothing keeps you motivated better than your kids! Plus, you’ll be setting a good example of how to be healthy and make fitness fun, not a chore. Try family friendly activities like biking, swimming, yoga, or hiking. You can even take your normal circuit training moves and tweak them for the kids. Body weight exercises like pushups, sit ups, lunges, crunches, jumping jacks, etc…are all great ways to keep the wee ones moving and having fun with mom and dad.
  4. Build a fort. Nothing makes you feel like a kid yourself than building and crawling around in a home made fort. For fantastic fort ideas, check out this Pinterest board. Pull out those blankets, pillows, cardboard boxes, flashlights, and couch cushions and get building!
  5. And of course plan a family day or playdate at Funderland. We have 9 pint sized rides for kids of all ages. We also have plenty of picnic areas, cafe treats, and attractions – perfect for a sunny summer day. So plan a family “Stay-cation” and pack in the fun at Funderland Amusement Park!

What Being a Mom Really Means

May02

As moms, we often get stuck in the day-to-day tasks that govern motherhood and wonder what in the world we’re doing. Some of these tasks are wonderful like those sweet moments when your kids are playing nicely with each other, when they’re using their manners, and when you’ve gotten all your housework down before noon (which means you’ll have the chance to actually sit down and play with your kids today!) Other moments are tough and exhausting like when you’re up all night with a sick child, when your kids are bickering non-stop, and when you’re late (again) for an appointment. During the good and not-so-good moments, don’t forget what it really means to be a mommy.

Being a Mom Means:

  • Responsibility is your middle name. You’re responsible for shaping, inspiring, encouraging, and loving the most sweetest kids in town. Although this task can weigh heavy on your shoulders, what joy it also brings! No words can describe the pride you feel when your son hits his first base run, or when your daughter’s solo in her class recital is adorably off key but she’s signing with all her might. Take pride in this responsibility, being a mother will be your most important job in life.
  • You wear a lot of hats. You’re a nurse, teacher, cook, house cleaner, referee, chauffeur, and counselor. It also means you’re an adventure tour guide, scientist, entrepreneur, obstacle course pro, artist, and a best friend.
  • Knowing your best is enough. There is no perfect mother, although some of us might swear we know one or two of them. Every mom doubts, fears, feels guilt, loses patience, and makes mistakes. But that’s not what define you as a mother. Since no one is perfect, how can we expect to achieve perfection in motherhood? Love and be gracious to yourself.
  • You’re #1 to someone. Although sometimes they may not act like it or know how to show you, your kids absolutely adore you. No one else can ever take the place of “Mommy” in their hearts.

The goal of every mom is to raise healthy happy kids, not perfect kids. So no matter what your background is, what mistakes you’ve made, or what situation you’re facing now, remember what being a mom really means.

Funderland is Making a Difference (by being environmentally responsible)

Apr21

We want to make a different in our city!

At Funderland Amusement Park, we take being environmentally responsible and taking care of our community seriously. We’re always looking for ways to reduce, reuse, recylce and “up-cylce” as much as we can.

Here are just a few things we’ve done at the park to show the earth and community a little more love:

  • Placed recycle bins throughout the park to collect recyclable waste

  • Upgraded to biodegradable cups (no more styrofoam for this squirrel!)

  • Updated our train engine to one run on electricity rather than gas

  • Installed faux grass in party areas (and plan to install more around the park) to minimize water usage

  • Recycle all of our cardboard, glass, and plastic waste

  • Planted water-wise plants

  • Updated to more energy efficient fridges and freezers

  • Reuse as many props and event items as we can

  • Plus – our owner drives a hybrid vehicle!

reduce reuse recycle Just think about what we could accomplish if we all decided to do one thing every month to give back to our community and help take care of our planet!

Won’t you celebrate Earth Day with us?

In celebration of Earth Day – we’re giving away 4 2014 Season Passes to the Earth Friendly Family of the Year! Just snap a photo of your family being environmentally responsible and upload to our Facebook page by clicking here until 4/25!
